Mobile – The 7th Mass Medium
If we do something, we do it properly. When we launched our mobile division, we partnered with South Africa’s largest cellular service provider: Vodacom – which gives us access to a substantial mobile advertising inventory.
Mobile has evolved into the “7th Mass Media” channel (not as scary as it sounds) with more cellphones in the world than all the televisions and PCs combined. There are now 42 million registered SIM cards in South Africa in a population of 48 million people. Thus giving mobile as a channel huge reach with over 85% penetration through various LSM levels – South Africa is the most active user base of the mobile internet in Africa. Not bad SA!
And if you’ve been into a cellphone shop recently, you will know there’s more to cellphones than making and taking a call. By using mobile media, you’re getting advertising that is interactive, targeted, instantaneous, cost effective and absolutely measurable. It can offer age, gender, location and handset targeting. The mobile medium offers unique moments of consumer engagement because of the close and personal relationship people have with their phones; moments that other media platforms are unable to deliver.
